Dr. Stevens’ internship and residency were completed at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, where he served as chief resident and later joined the Department of Ophthalmology as an associate staff member. Since 1987, Dr. Stevens has served in a full-time or a volunteer position on the faculty of the Department of Ophthalmology at VCU Medical Center, formerly the Medical College of Virginia, in Richmond. He was the Chief of the Division of Ophthalmology at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond for 13 years.
Corneal Transplants and Cataract Surgery Dr. Stevens is involved in clinical research as well as the education and training of fellows and residents in corneal transplant and corneal disease. His recent lectures cover topics such as corneal transplantation technique and lens complications of cataract surgery. He published the first clinical series on laser-assisted cataract surgery. LASIK Dr. Stevens has certified hundreds of eye surgeons throughout the United States, including Virginia, and Canada in the use of the VISX excimer laser for refractive surgery (LASIK).
