How are MWHC Associates Insured?
MWHC's benefits are self-funded. This means that MWHC pays for all medical expenses incurred by our Associates and their families, with the exception of deductibles and co-pays. MWHC pays approximately 80% of all medical, dental, and vision expenses. Associates pay the remaining 20% through deductibles, and co-pays.
MWHC hires insurance administrators each year to manage our programs. These companies file claims, pay providers, and manage Associates premiums, deductibles, co-insurance, and co-pays.

Why are we changing insurance companies?
Thanks to your feedback this year, we have learned that most Associates are more concerned with medical expenses than with staying with Aetna. For 2012, Aetna proposed a 12% increase for our services; United offered us the same coverage with better support services for only slightly more than we are paying for 2011. UMR was simply the better alternative for the MWHC family.

Will I have to pay more out of pocket?
MWHC is picking up the majority of additional expense. There will be a small increase in premiums, please see the 2012 Benefits Guide.

Will I still be able to see my doctor?
In making our selection to move to UMR, one of the major considerations was the ability of our Associates to continue to see their personal doctor. While United Healthcare has the largest network of physicians in our region, there are always exceptions, so please speak with your doctor if you are unsure. If your personal doctor does not participate in the UMR network, please let the Benefits office know and we will contact your doctor and make every reasonable effort to enroll your doctor in the UMR network.

What else do I need to know?
With UMR, you can manage your healthcare online. In addition, UMR offers a wide variety of health and wellness tools, and information for flexible savings accounts.
