Walter J. Kiwall

Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Kiwall is the executive vice president and chief operating officer for Mary Washington Healthcare and also serves as the president of Stafford Hospital. Walt has earned undergraduate degrees from Pennsylvania State University and the California University of Pennsylvania in engineering and business. His MBA was earned from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Kiwall has executive responsibility for the operations and system development of the health system. This responsibility includes patient services, clinical support departments, administrative support departments, mental health services, properties, capital equipment management, and facility construction and business development. Mr. Kiwall also works on a regular basis with the medical chiefs of service and a wide variety of physician leaders. He served as the chief operating officer at Mary Washington Hospital, as well as the vice president of human resource and support services, before being promoted to his present position. Mr. Kiwall's previous work includes 35 years of operations and human resource management positions in healthcare and heavy industry.
