President, Chief Executive Officer Fred M. Rankin, III, was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. After graduating from Firestone High School in Akron, Ohio, he matriculated at Dartmouth College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973. After college and a few years working as a hospital orderly, he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health. Mr. Rankin received his Master's of Public Health degree in 1978. Mr. Rankin began his professional career at the Forbes Health System in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he served his administrative residency. After the completion of his residency, he was appointed to the position of assistant to the medical director and later he served as an assistant administrator at Forbes Regional Health Center. In 1981, Mr. Rankin was appointed an associate vice president of Allegheny General Hospital, a large academic medical center, in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mr. Rankin was promoted to vice president in 1986 and senior vice president in 1989. In 1992, Mr. Rankin was appointed president of Mary Washington Hospital, located in Fredericksburg, Va. In 1995, he was promoted to and continues to serve as president and chief executive officer of Mary Washington Healthcare. Mr. Rankin is married to Barbara Burnham Rankin, who teaches chemistry at Stafford High School. He and Barbara are the proud parents of three children: Genny, a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and currently an MBA student at the University of Richmond; Allison, a graduate of the University of Virginia, who currently works for the American Society of Association Executives and The Center for Association Leadership; and Philip, who serves in the United States Navy. The Rankins live in South Stafford, Virginia. |
