Meet Elaine, one of Mary Washington’s first breast cancer patients
to receive groundbreaking one time, one hour radiation therapy: Breast
Microseed Treatment®. It saves patients from having to receive weeks
of daily treatments. Instead, radiation oncologists place radioactive
palladium-filled titanium seeds in the breast around the tumor site. The
seeds, approximately the size of a grain of rice, deliver low dose radiation
over several weeks following the procedure.
Elaine is back to her daily activities, including quilting, and enjoying
“This technology allows patients live their lives and get back to
the people and things they love,” said Dr. John Chinault, Director
of Radiation Oncology at the MWHC Regional Cancer Center.
