Baby and Daddy Boot Camp (Stafford Hospital) [$30]Come join other new dads as we explore the realm of fatherhood! This class covers many topics such as: holding your baby, swaddling, burping, feeding, bathing, and diapering. We will also discuss emotions, feelings, intimacy, and fears. This class will give you a solid foundation to feel secure in taking care of and bonding with your baby. You can bring in mom and baby briefly, but then you will complete the class with a life-size doll. Space is limited. Classes are held in Conference Rooms 2 and 3. Babysitting and Child Safety (Mary Washington Hospital) [$50]Young adults age 12 and older have this opportunity to learn what it takes to be a good babysitter in this action-packed one-day course on the care and safety of their young charges. It follows American Safety & Health Institute guidelines, and upon successful completion, participants receive an official ASHI Babysitter card. Lunch is provided. Students need to be transported to and from the class location by an adult. Space is limited. Classes are held in the Tompkins-Martin Building on the Mary Washington Hospital Campus. Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings and Beyond (Stafford Hospital) [$45]Everything new parents want to know about breast pumps, pumping and storing breastmilk, and breastfeeding beyond your infant's first two weeks. Includes tips on how to successfully meet the needs of your new baby and family, as well as your work schedule. Highly recommended for all new mothers and fathers before or after the baby's birth. Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings and Beyond (Mary Washington Hospital) [$45]A three-hour class for moms and dads that focuses on the basics of breastfeeding your newborn to help you get off to a great start. Topics include: breast pumps, expressing and storing, and breastfeeding beyond the first few weeks. Space is limited. Classes are held in the Tompkins-Martin Building on the Mary Washington Hospital Campus. Select from one of the following dates:
Cesarean Birth Class (Mary Washington Hospital) - FREEThis class is strongly recommended for dads or coaches who plan to attend a Cesarean birth. Note: If you are taking Prepared Childbirth classes, this one-hour class is included as part of that series. Space is limited. Childbirth Basics (Mary Washington Hospital) [$65]This course is for expectant parents who cannot attend a full Prepared Childbirth series. It covers the basic process of labor & delivery, breathing and relaxation, what to expect in the hospital, Cesarean birth, and includes a tour of the maternity unit. Space is limited. Classes are held in the Tompkins-Martin Building on the Mary Washington Hospital Campus. Select from one of the following class series dates:
Childbirth Basics (Stafford Hospital) [$65]A six-hour course for expectant parents who cannot take the full Prepared Childbirth series. It covers the basics of labor & delivery: simple breathing and relaxation, what to expect in the hospital, and Cesarean birth. A tour of L&D is included. This class offers less detail than a full Childbirth class. Space is limited. Classes are held in Conference Rooms 2 and 3. Childbirth Preparation (Mary Washington Hospital) [$90]The path from pregnancy to parenthood is childbirth. These classes will help you and your birth partner prepare to give birth. Gentle Yoga Core Strength (Stafford Hospital) [$80] This class is great for any "body". It is ideal for new moms (must be 6 weeks postpartum & bring a doctor's note), beginners, experienced students. It will focus on core strength & stress reduction. Please bring your yoga mat, yoga strap & something to drink & join us for a time of strengthening & rejuvenation. This class is held every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Call for more information or to reserve a space.
Home with Baby (Mary Washington Hospital) [$30]This is a class for first-time parents who want to know what to expect in the first two weeks at home with your new baby. Learn the basics of infant care, with practice bathing and diapering newborn dolls, and get answers to your questions. Space is limited. Classes are held in the Tompkins-Martin Building on the Mary Washington Hospital Campus. Select from one of the following class dates:
Home with Baby (Stafford Hospital) [$30]A class for first-time parents that's best taken by the beginning of the ninth month of pregnancy to learn how to care for mother and infant in the first two weeks home. Find out through practice how to hold, bathe, diaper, and burp your infant, and realize when you need help. Space is limited. Select from one of the following class dates:
Infant and Toddler Nutrition (Mary Washington Hospital) [$30]Learn how to feed your child correctly from the start. A Registered Dietitian will answer your questions on when to start feeding solid food, how much food, and what types of food babies need, as well as provide nutrition tips for the toddler years. Space is limited. Classes are held in the Tompkins-Martin Building on the Mary Washington Hospital Campus. Select from one of the following class dates:
Infant CPR (Mary Washington Hospital) [$30 per person/$40 couple]Learn the ABC's of Infant CPR (birth to one year of age) by practicing on mannequins. This is a MUST for all parents who do not already know CPR. Note: This course does not earn CPR certification. Space is limited. Parents Expecting Multiples (Mary Washington Hospital) [$30]Parents expecting twins, triplets, or more will benefit from this three-hour class that address your special needs. It covers: Adjusting to the news, finances, good nutrition, slowing down and surviving bedrest at home and in the hospital, identifying preterm labor, and delivery. It includes a tour of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), how to breastfeed multiples, and helpful tips and resources for life at home. Space is limited. Classes are held in the Tompkins-Martin Building on the Mary Washington Hospital Campus. Select from one of the following class dates:
Prenatal Yoga (Stafford Hospital) [$80]This is a 6 week class of prenatal yoga exercises/stretches that will teach the expectant mother how to relax, breathe, & condition her body for labor. It will teach how to reduce the physical discomforts that occur during pregnancy. Please bring a yoga mat, 2 pillows or blankets for support, something to drink & a note from your MD approving your participation in class. Classes are held every Thursday at Stafford Hospital at 7:30 pm. Call for more information or to reserve a space.
Sibling Class (Mary Washington Hospital) [FREE]This FREE one-hour class is for big brothers and sisters (to-be) ages 2 through 7. It includes a tour, video, and practice of positive big brother/sister skill). NOTE: DUE TO CLASS SIZE AND THE TOUR, ONLY ONE OR BOTH PARENTS MAY ATTEND. Space is limited. Tours of the Birth Centers at Mary Washington and Stafford Hospitals Tours are held at MWH once a month on a Sunday afternoon and a Tuesday evening. Stafford Hospital tours are held once a month on a Saturday morning and a Tuesday evening. Please call for dates and times. Space is limited. |
